The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection, and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government is inviting applications from versatile and suitably qualified candidates to fill the following  vacant position.

Overall Objective

Ensuring effective installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure at MRA offices and stations in order to provide safe, reliable, and efficient power supply that supports the Authority’s operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, equipment, and systems in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Conducting routine inspection and testing of electrical systems to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Ensururing timely maintenance and servicing of electrical infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, lighting, distribution boards, and air conditioning units.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshoot electrical faults, recommending solutions and carrying out corrective actions.
  • Monitor and maintain backup power systems (e.g., solar, gensets) to ensure business continuity during power outages.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and electrical inventories. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and Malawi electrical codes.
  • Supporting projects involving electrical installations for new MRA buildings, renovations, or ICT infrastructure.
  • Responding promptly to emergency electrical issues to minimize downtime and disruption of Authority operations.
  • Providing technical input on procurement of electrical spares, equipment, and service contracts.

Qualifications

Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).

City & Guilds diploma/TEVETA level 3/National Trade Test Certificate Grade 1 in electrical installation or related field from recognised institution.

Valid registration with Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) or Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI) will be an added advantage.

Years of Experience

At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in electrical installation and maintenance, preferably in a corporate or institutional environment.

Competencies

Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring standards, and troubleshooting techniques.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.

Hands-on experience with power generators, UPS systems, and solar installations.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

High attention to detail, accuracy, and safety consciousness.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently under pressure and respond to emergencies promptly.

Successful candidates before being appointed will undergo an extensive background check of their integrity. Only when the vetting exercise is favourable shall the Authority make the appointment.
