The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection, and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government is inviting applications from versatile and suitably qualified candidates to fill the above vacant position in the Legal Division
Overall Objective
To provide technical legal advisory services and contractual and legislative drafting services.
Main Responsibilities
- Providing advice and interpretation on legal matters or issues.
- Providing guidance on the proper application and interpretation of laws and regulations as applicable to the Authority’s business and ensure adequacy of controls to mitigate legal and other risks or concerns that may arise thereto.
- Representing the Authority internally and externally in negotiation, disputes, consultations and other proceedings that require legal representation.
- Maintaining collaborative working relationships with other institutions in review and formulation of legislation.
- Ensuring systematic and strategic risks are identified and legal exposure for the Authority is minimized.
- Directing and participating in the review of existing laws pertinent to tax administration and recommendation of or formulation of appropriate amendments.
- Drafting or leading the drafting of legal documents or instruments.
- Ensuring drafted contracts, agreements and internal policies are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
- Reviewing and signing off of legal documentation as prepared by legal counsel.
- Directing, coordinating and reviewing professional work of legal counsel performing such duties as providing advice on legal issues and drafting legal documents.
- Leading and facilitating knowledge sharing, expertise and skills with the legal team.
- Conducting and coordinating job performance reviews.
- Preparing and submitting monthly performance reports to the Director, Legal.
Experience and Qualification
- Bachelor of Law from recognised institution
- Master’s Degree in Law.
- Admitted to practice Law in courts of Malawi.
- Minimum 10 years of experience post admission.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Honours).

Successful candidates before being appointed will undergo an extensive background check of their integrity. Only when the vetting exercise is favourable shall the Authority make the appointment.
